Why StepCat steps may be missing, delayed, or different

What should I check first?

1. Confirm activity permissionCheck that StepCat still has the health or activity read access you intended to grant.
2. Identify the sourceConfirm whether the phone, health platform, or a connected wearable is supplying the activity information.
3. Match the time windowCompare the same date, day boundary, and metric in both places.
4. Let connected sources synchronizeOpen the source app or platform and allow recent wearable or phone activity to finish updating.
5. Reopen and updateReopen StepCat, restart the device if needed, and install available app or operating-system updates.
6. Document the remaining differenceCapture the affected screen, date, source, and device details before contacting support.

Why can two apps report different totals?

Step reporting can vary because of device hardware, where a phone is carried, activity-source priority, connected wearables, duplicate handling, permissions, background behavior, synchronization timing, time zones, day boundaries, and each app's eligibility rules.

A useful comparison keeps the source and time window consistent. If one app shows phone-only activity while another includes a recently synchronized wearable, the numbers are not measuring the same input yet.

How can permissions or background behavior affect updates?

Removing activity access can stop metrics and game features from receiving new information. Device battery controls, background restrictions, a closed source app, or an operating-system update can also delay when information becomes available.

Menu names and background behavior change across operating-system versions. Use the current Apple Health or Health Connect controls shown on your device rather than relying on an old screenshot or a universal menu path.

What should I know about connected wearables?

A wearable may contribute activity through a health ecosystem that StepCat supports, but this does not mean every wearable is directly compatible with StepCat. The wearable, its companion app, the health platform, permissions, synchronization, and duplicate handling all participate in the data flow.

When should I contact StepCat support?
